About

    Jianhua Xu, born in Gansu province on April 27, 1965, now is a Professor of Geography and the Director of The Research Centre for East-West Cooperation in China, East China Normal University.
    His research interest includes Geocomputation, GIS and Remote Sensing Applications, especially in the field of Physical Geography and Ecological Economics. He has hosted more than 30 research projects which from National Natural Science Fund of China, National Social Science Fund of China, as well as from the support of provinces and  ministries of China.
    He  has published 13 books, such as  Geographical Systems Analysis, Agricultural Ecologic Economic Systems Analysis, Human ecological system, The Regional Development Theories and Research Methods, The Strategic Option for Dispelling Poverty, Remote Sensing Analysis and GIS, Mathematical Methods in Contemporary Geography (First &Second edition), Geographical Modelling Methods, Quantitative Geography, and The Disadvantages and Advantages of Later Comer and Innovative Countermeasures for the Development of Western China.
    Furthermore, he has published more than 100 papers in academic journals such as International Journal of climatology, Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, Hydrological Processes, Regional Development Studies, International Journal of Sediment Research, Journal of Geographical Sciences, Chinese Science Bulletin, Chinese Geographical Science, International Journal of Remote Sensing, Environmental Earth Sciences, Geographic information sciences, Acta Ecologica Sinica,  Journal of Soil and Water Conservation, Acta Geographica Sinica, Geographical Research, Scientia Geographica Sinica, Journal of Desert Research, Arid Land Geography, Journal of Lanzhou University, and Journal of Natural Disasters.
    Additionally, he has worked as the editorial board member for academic journals, such as Journal of Desert Research, Areal Research and Development, Human Geography, Ecologic Science, Arid Land Geography, Chinese Geographical Science, Journal of Geographic Information System, and Journal of Signal and Information Processing.
    Research direction of PhD supervised by professor Jianhua Xu is mainly as follows: (1) Geo-computation; (2) ecological economy modeling; (3) remote sensing application; (4) application system development of GIS.
